. In Japanese martial arts, there is a tradition of summing up the year’s training with a final training session, Etsunengeiko.
Etsunengeiko (Japanese: 越年稽古) is the final, concluding class, significantly more intense than usual. This training session takes place on New Year’s Eve, a tradition in Nippon Kempo. The first Nippon Kempo New Year’s training session in Ukraine was held in 2012. And now, despite the war, the final test class of 2026 was held in Kyiv. The test involved both war veterans and those who continue to defend Ukraine but were in Kyiv at the time of the test.
Unfortunately, not all students were able to participate in Etsunengeiko 2026, as the war scattered everyone around the world. Although our numbers were small, we continue the tradition of summing things up with a final class. We thank everyone who worked so hard on their kempo practice throughout the year and everyone who was able to visit the dojo. We look forward to seeing all our students in 2026. Wishing you victory and a happy New Year!
